There is stiff competition on the smog check industry, but who to choose?   How do you know who to pick when it comes this thing? After all, they all do the same thing, or do they? The problem with the smog check industry is that there are a lot of shops that do smog check inspections, but a lot of shops are cutting corners. They just pass your car without actually inspecting it. This is why the STAR program came into place.

The star certified stations are hand picked by the Bureau of  Automotive repair based on performance standards. Those who perform well and follow the rules will most likely because certified to inspect and certify almost any vehicle.

You can find a Star smog coupon for the Upland area very easily online. The one we highly recommend is the Foothill Quicky Smog STAR – TEST ONLY & REGULAR. They have been around since 2007 and have helped thousands of satisfied customers. Feel free to check them out on Yelp and Google to see how their ratings are.

Pass or Fail Smog Check

Everyone asks the question of how to pass a smog check inspection. The answer is quite easy. I will list all the necessary things to prepare your vehicle for a smog inspection to insure it will pass with flying colors.

1. Make sure your vehicle does not have a check engine light. If it is on get a diagnositc to see what’s causing it. Sometimes it’s as simple as a loose gas cap and sometimes it’s as harsh as transmission gear.

2. Check all visible hoses and make sure all hoses are not cracked and in good condition

3. Make sure all hoses and sensors are in the correct place, you can use the under hood label or a vacuum and component diagram from the dealer.

4. If your battery died, was disconnected, or changed make sure you drive about 50-100 miles to let the car complete its diagnostic. A little bit of freeway miles cruising at 50-55 mph and a little bit of street stop-n-go. Fill up gas up to 3/4 of a tank to help trip the EVAP monitor which is the hardest one to set.

5. Make sure all tires are at the correct pressure. Low air in tire will cause two things: It may cause problems keeping it steady on the dynomometer or it may effect HC (Hydro Carbons) readings if the air is extremely low.

**By checking all of these things your chances of passing a smog check inspection are much better. The one thing you cannot check is the reading from the tailpipe and for this you have to go to a smog check station. We highly recommend going to a station that offers a free re-test so if your vehicle does happen to fail you can fix it and take it back at no extra cost.

If you happen to be in the Glendora or Upland area, we like to recommend you visit a Quicky Smog location. They offer fair pricing, a free re-test, AND a free car wash.
